PhonePe Complaint

PhonePe issues range from failed transactions and pending refunds to wrong UPI transfers and outright fraud. As an RBI-regulated payment app, PhonePe follows a defined grievance timeline, and unresolved cases can be escalated to NPCI, the RBI Ombudsman, or cyber crime authorities.

What Is It

A PhonePe complaint is a formal report raised through the app, customer care, or grievance portal for issues like failed transactions, money debited but not received, wrong UPI transfers, pending refunds, account blocks, or fraudulent/unauthorized transactions.

When To Use It

Use this process if your PhonePe transaction failed but amount was debited, refund hasn't arrived, money went to the wrong UPI ID, your account got blocked, or you suspect a fraudulent/unauthorized transaction on your account.

Step-by-Step Process

  1. 1Open the PhonePe app, go to 'History', select the disputed transaction and tap 'Contact PhonePe Support' to raise a Level 1 complaint.
  2. 2Alternatively, call PhonePe customer care on 080-68727374 / 022-68727374 with your transaction ID, UTR number, date and amount ready.
  3. 3If unresolved in 15 days, raise a Level 2 grievance at grievance.phonepe.com with transaction details and screenshots.
  4. 4For UPI-specific disputes involving another bank, escalate via NPCI or contact your bank directly to raise a chargeback.
  5. 5If it's a fraud/unauthorized transaction, immediately call the 1930 cyber fraud helpline and file a report on cybercrime.gov.in, alongside the PhonePe fraud report.
  6. 6If still unresolved after 30 days, escalate to the RBI Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in or via toll-free 14448.

Documents Required

  • Transaction ID / UTR number
  • Transaction date, time and amount
  • Registered mobile number linked to PhonePe
  • Screenshot of the transaction/error
  • Bank statement showing the debit
  • Cyber crime complaint acknowledgment number (for fraud cases)

Fees

Free. Filing a complaint with PhonePe, NPCI, the cyber crime portal, or the RBI Ombudsman costs nothing.

Processing Time

First response within 24 hours; Level 1 resolution within 15 days (up to 30 business days for certain cases). Level 2 grievance resolution within 7 business days. RBI Ombudsman is eligible after 30 days if unresolved.

Important Tips

  • Always note down your complaint/ticket ID from the app or customer care for follow-up.
  • For fraud, call 1930 within the first hour — the chances of freezing funds drop sharply after that.
  • Never share your UPI PIN, OTP or CVV with anyone, including someone claiming to be a PhonePe employee.
  • Stick to one complaint channel at a time to avoid duplicate tickets and confusion.
